This is such a fun and entertaining read with unforgettable characters and a well-written mystery that quickly became a page-turner with lots of interesting suspects, twists and turns that kept me guessing all in a beautiful Irish village setting. Even though this is the fourth book in the series, it is the first I have read by Carlene O'Connor and I am so intrigued I purchased the entire series for my Kindle so I can "catch up". I really liked Garda Siobhan O'Sullivan and her dynamic with the other characters especially D.S. Macdara Flannery, her boss and lover. This is a must-read for fans of well-crafted cozy mysteries and I look forward to reading more by this talented author. I received an advance reader copy of MURDER IN AN IRISH PUB and this is my voluntary review.

That is not criticism. Like Siobhan my mind kept jumping back and forth among all the people who were possibilities -- who wanted The Octopus dead? When the mystery was solved I was as surprised as everyone else. I love the interaction with her brothers and sisters and the way she tries to act as mother to all of them. I really enjoyed this book and kept reading it when there were other things I should have been doing!

I really enjoy this series. I can envision the beautiful Irish countryside and the warm friendly villages. I like the fact that Siobhan is a smart, strong, loving, caring woman. I also, enjoy the development of the other characters especially Guarda Flannery and the O`Sullivan Six!. The mysteries are well developed and hold your interest. However, if you are looking for an edge of your seat thriller, this is not for you. This is a well written, all around enjoyable series, I can`t wait for the next one!

Well done ! I loved it! Read what happens when top card players get together in an Irish pub. Suicide or homicide. As I said before read Murder in an Irish Pub.

Seemed to. Be a lot of people to remember but it was a very good book. I loved the way it ended

And this book in the series was as fabulous as all the previous....lost plenty of sleep with these page-turners. :-)

I love these books. I can almost imagin the irish county side

For me, this cozy mystery was a mix of pros and cons that made for an enjoyable enough read, but it's not one I would seek out and it's not a series I'll follow. My favorite part was the setting. The writing is atmospheric, and I loved the little Irish Village. I've never been to Ireland, but I felt like I was right there in that village watching all the activity. That being said, the characters have an odd self-conscious awareness regarding their Irishness. Siobhan and the others constantly comment on their Irish nature as a sort of explanation for various behaviors. Maybe this is normal in an Irish village, but it seemed odd. I don't know anyone who goes around commenting on their own "Americanness" or "Britishness" on a regular basis. It all felt too much like the author's own interjection for explanations, rather than a normal thought-process or conversation between the characters. This story has a whole lot of characters, and none of them are particularly well developed. I didn't read the first three books in this series, so it's possible that I'd have a better sense of the main characters, at least, if I'd started at the beginning. The aspect that annoyed me the most is this did not feel like a police procedural mystery, despite the two lead characters being police. Instead, this reads like a cozy mystery starring amateur detectives who bumble around the town trying to solve a murder. Things that were obvious to me weren't explored until near the end. It was like Siobhan and Macdara just took things at face value, never really digging below the surface or fully investigating all possibilities. In many ways, this felt like an investigation that would've taken place decades ago, before computers connected everyone with the touch of a button. If you're looking for a light read with a fun setting, this one might be perfect for you. If you're looking for something with depth, you might want to look elsewhere.
