While this was not a " fun" read, I could not put this book down. What an inspiring story of what God will do when we reach out to him. It is unbelievable that many Americans had no idea of the atrocities that were going on in Cambodia during that time. Thank you to the author and family members for sharing this heart rendering story.

A well written captivating memoir. So grateful to get a glimpse into the accounts of survival, compassion in the midst of darkness, determination, hope and faith. A read I highly recommend.

Heather takes the reader into the everyday struggle for Siv Eng in the very real horrific takeover of Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge. The atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge as well as the Nazis , Bosnia and even back to King Herodotus need to be told to every generation. Otherwise we easily repeat history and blindly follow lunatic fringe and the ideals of loving our neighbor are soon lost.Siv Eng lives in California with her husband and mother. She lives a simple life filled with her love of God and family quietly. Yet the strength, courage, sacrifice, love and hope that I see in this woman written on the pages of this book leave all the readers inspired to live as God intended......in peace.

This is such a powerful story of a young girl who survived the brutal and indescribable Khmer Rouge takeover of her country. It is a powerful testimony of her will to live and of helpfulness and love of those she met along her journey.

What a personal and incredible story of perseverance. I enjoyed the read and plan on reading again.

I deeply appreciated this true story of a living hero who survived the reign of terror of the Khmer Rouge. Excellent writing that allows you to almost taste, smell, hear, and feel what Siv Eng endured.

Just finished this book; “The Girl Who Said Goodbye” written by friend and local author; Heather Allen. The book tells the unbelievable but true story of Heather’s aunt, Siv Eng and her family, who were driven from their homes and lives in Cambodia in 1975 by the Khmer Rouge...and the nightmare that ensued. The story is vivid, the emotion is raw, the flow is compelling and the history lesson is a plunge into darkness that most of us will never know. Siv Eng’s courage in the midst of overwhelming chaos and evil is a thing of amazement, but the hope of the human spirit woven through this story is a thing of praise to our great God. We say that God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. God, in ways that only He could, qualified Siv Eng to endure and survive. You have to read this book!

Couldn’t put this book down. Many twists and turns and moved me to tears.
