The author seems knowledgeable, experienced, and enthusiastic about New Zealand, and his family or friends might enjoy it, but this book is more of a travel log than a travel guide, and is hardly helpful.Examples:There are 75 potentially informative pages, 12 point (?) font, intro through conclusion. Some of them are nearly empty.Twenty one of those pages have somewhat random photographs taking up most of the page. No captions.There isn't a single map in the book. I haven't seen a single address in the book.The sub-chapter titled "Best Places to Eat in New Zealand" lists 6 places: 3 on North Island, 3 on South Island. Is that all? For all tastes? Really? It fails to lists a location for one of these places (I mean, not even the town). The descriptions suggest that the list reflects the author's personal taste and possibly should have been named "My favorite restaurants in New Zealand".The list of popular dishes and the slang chapter are somewhat informative.The chapter on accommodations in New Zealand offers some interesting ideas (e.g. renting houseboats), but is vague on specifics: not clear where those places are located, what the price ranges are (with a single exception), or how to get there.The author wrote his own back cover.Enough said. At a risk of spending more time writing this review than the author spent writing the book, I'm going to stop here and order a Lonely Planet guide or similar, for more or less the same price.
This is not a travel guide - it is a travel log - not helpful at all!
This measly little 84 page, travel book was the biggest rip off of all of my Amazon purchases! Why was this given so many stars? I could have written without ever having been to New Zealand. I’m sorry to say that I paid too much for a book that read more like a child’s geography history book report. Much of the end of this publication were full page ads of more of the authors undoubtedly ridiculous travel books. Shame on Thomas Leon for ripping off your readers!
This is basically a write-up of the author's seemingly one and only two-week trip to New Zealand. The book contains no perspective on New Zealand as a whole. So if you aren't planning to go to New Zealand and replicate his trip, it's a useless travel guide.
What a rip off! For $13 I was expecting a genuine travel guide to traveling in for all of NZ, but instead got a 90 page very large print, very poorly written, very sparse, vacation log. Now I have to go back and order a real NZ travel guide.
Only good thing was it was cheap. Pretty short with not a lot of info in it. Pretty much a waste
completely lacking in useful detail. random and exceedingly light on content.
